Welcome to Legion Post 517
Since our charter in 1920, our American Legion Post has been welcoming VETERANS from all branches of our Armed Forces. Today, we continue to welcome all military personnel serving our country. Joining our Post enables you to continue serving your God, Country and Community. Our mission is to implement the goals, aspirations, dreams, peace and blessings for our country, friends and families embodied in our preamble.
The Harry Lackhove American Legion Post 517, Inc, of Mercersburg welcomes veterans and members of the local community to join our post. We have four categories of membership, first being legion membership to those veterans who have served at least one day on active duty during times specifically designated by Congress. We also have an Auxiliary Unit; spouses of veterans (male and female) females whose father, brother, sister, grandparents may qualify if their relative served on active duty during those specified dates of eligibility. Our third category of membership is our Sons-of-the American Legion. Sons of veterans who served at least one day of active duty, are eligible for membership. The above applicants must provide a DD Form 214 as proof of eligibility. Our fourth category of membership is “SOCIAL MEMBERS” which covers anyone having no military affililation who would like to participate in our activities. All membership fees are currently $30.00 annually, payable on or before Dec 31 of each year. Life membership is available for our post and auxiliary members.
Our Home Association operates the social quarters which includes a lounge and restaurant facilities, plus a ballroom which is available for rental for parties and special functions.
Applications for membership can be obtained at the post home or printed from membership application menu page of this web site. Completed applications accompanied with the annual $30.00 fee and DD Form 214, where applicable, can be dropped off or mailed to the post. Copies of DD Form 214 can be requested on-line at: http://www.archives.gov/veterans/military-service-records.
To the wonderful patriotic citizens of the Mercersburg community. Join our Post and help us to continue sponsoring Scholarships for our children; give aid and assistance to our local needy Veterans, and their families. Help us to continue to support financially worthy community programs and projects.
MEMBERSHIP ELIGIBILTY in the American Legion is based on honorable service with the U. S. Armed Forces between:
(April 6, 1917 - November 11, 1918) World War I
(December 7, 1941 - until the date of the end of hostilities as determined by the government of the United States.)
Must have served at least one day of active military duty during the dates above and honorably discharged or still serving honorably. :
